Overlay Enter/Exit Transitions don't work.

I'm trying to use my own gif to make a custom sound alert overlay. It works fine, but it just snap into view and then vanishes instantly when it is finished, and none of the enter/exit transition options change this. I was wanting it to fade in and then fade out. why have the option if it doesn't do anything?
